Vision Statement
The Ottawa Recreation Commission strives to provide quality experiences through inspiring recreation programs that improve overall wellbeing for the Ottawa community, one program and person at a time.
Mission Statement
The Ottawa Recreation Commission exists to improve the overall quality of life through well designed, inclusive recreation programs and facilities in partnership with the Ottawa School District and City of Ottawa.
About Us
The Ottawa Recreation Commission (ORC) was established in 1947, as provided in the Kansas Statutes under Article 19 of Chapter 12. According to this statute, the Commission is governed by a volunteer five-member, policy-setting, board comprised of two appointees from the City of Ottawa, two from USD 290 and one at-large position appointed by the four previously mentioned members. Commissioners, by law, are not paid and volunteer their time to represent the community.
The Ottawa Recreation Commission is primarily funded through property tax mills levied by USD 290. Programs are supported by individual registrations, user fees, sponsorships and donations.
We provide essential quality of life services through recreation programs such as: fitness and wellness programs, youth/teen/senior programs, youth and adult sports, and community special events. The ORC partners with the City of Ottawa and USD 290 to operate recreation programs using properties and facilities of each entity.
